Three Tips for Personalizing Your Engagement Session

April 21, 2016

We love engagement sessions! It’s one of our favorites parts of working with our clients. We love taking this time to really get to know our couples and have fun together. One thing we suggest is for couples to use this opportunity to do something, or go somewhere that is personal to them. Use this time to customize your shoot to reflect who you are as a couple and what you like to do together! Not only will your engagement shoot be more fun for you, but it will also be way more relaxed! Our goal is for you to feel like you are on a date, having fun and laughing (and we’re just there photographing it all)!

Here are a few things we suggest when planning your engagement session!

LOCATION:

As photographers, we can always recommend some great locations, but this is your chance to make your session personal to you. Where do you and your fiancé go together, what do you like to do? Where did you first meet, have your first date, or get engaged? Ask yourselves these questions when thinking about a location for your session! In the photos below, Ashley + Tom decided to have their engagement session at the Philadelphia Art Museum, where they got engaged. And Brittany + Greg chose Longwood Gardens because it tied into their garden theme for their wedding!

ACTIVITY OR HOBBY:

What is something you enjoy doing together as a couple? A hobby you both enjoy, or an activity you find yourselves doing together? This does not mean it has to be something crazy or adventurous or outdoors (although it CAN be). The way that you two spend your time together day-to-day is usually a big part of who you are as a couple. This can be something as simple as relaxing at home, making breakfast together. Or it can be something as adventurous as hiking onto a cliff.

PETS

If you’ve taken the time to check out our “about me” page, then you know we are parents to two fur children. We are firm believers that pets are a part of your family and we LOVE when you include them in your engagement session. This is just another way to make your photos more personal. It gives us the opportunity to photograph not only the love between the two of you, but also the love that the both of you share for your furry four-legged child as well! Below are some of the couples we’ve photographed with their pets!
